Sculptures in Wickersley Wood
The wonderful wooden Sculptures in Wickersley Wood
The initial sculptures were grant funded but since then the Parish Council have made an annual investment to provide additional sculptures. These provide great interest and focal points around the award winning Wickersley Wood by addition of wooden sculptures!
Currently there are seven sculptures - images below - Welcome Sign, Squirrel; Woodpecker; Fox; Badger bench; Storyteller's Chair with the Owl on the reverse and the Hares.
Lorraine Botterill, Sculptor from Stocksbridge, created the Welcome sign, Hares, Fox, Storyteller's chair and Badger bench
Karl Barker at Yorkshire Carving based in North Yorkshire, created the Woodpecker and Squirrel
The Parish Council also funds and organises ongoing conservation measures in the wood. The work in Spring 2020 was not without its difficulties given the heavy rainfall and the Covid-19 delay in completing the remedial work.
Wickersley Wood is also where the annual Parish Easter Hunt takes place – with a different theme each year – but always taking place at 12noon on Easter Saturday entering the wood from the entrance on Wood Lane.
